Life doesn&##x27;t wait

Life doesn't wait

One thing I like about the full-time RVing life is the interesting people I meet. I meet people who are not afraid to look at options, make a change, and take a risk.

One recent example is a young woman who was camped beside me for a few days this week. She was taking steps to decide what she wanted to do with her life. She was 34, never been married, had a college degree, had saved some money, and had her health, but she wasn't really happy. She wasn't necessarily unhappy, but she felt life was passing her by.

She had to decide if she wanted to have a family. She said, that if a family was in her future, she had better make plans soon. Her choices in boyfriends had not been the best during her life. Her boyfriend before last was on death row for killing the girlfriend he had after her. Her other previous boyfriends were good people she said and she was still friends with all of them, but they were just not the person she wanted to spend her life with.

Most people spend more time planning a two-week vacation than they do planning their lives. She was determined to do things differently. Instead of just going along and seeing what job offers came along, what new boyfriends she met, and where she ended up living, she had taken some time off from work to do some thinking about her life. She could go back to the job she had if she decided to, but she wasn't sure she wanted to do that.

She had spent a month living and working on a goat farm, and after a week camping beside a river, she was off to work a month on a horse farm. She said that shoveling manure and feeding animals was hard work, and doing hard physical work is a good way for me to clear my mind and have time to think.

I don't know what she will decide and I didn't give her any advice. After all, most people don't really want advice even when they ask for it, and they sure don't want it when they don't ask for it.

Bottom line: The lyrics of "Beautiful Boy (Darling Boy)" contain the famous John Lennon quote "Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans."

There is a lot of truth in those words. Whether you're thinking about embarking on living the full-time RVing lifestyle or you're already doing it and thinking about whether to continue it or not, take some time to think about what you really want to do when you grow up.

Note: I respect people's privacy. The picture in this article is not the person the article is about. It's a stock RVing photo I had purchased for a book and didn't use.
