Living with million dollar views

Living with million dollar views

It's rough, but somebody has to do it--that is, live in places that have million dollar views.

I don't mean that as just a figure of speech. In many of the places where I camp there are houses nearby with the same view right beside the campground that are worth far more than a million-dollars, and in some cases they paid over a million dollars just for the lot.

Some of the places I camp are in National Parks where you couldn't buy a piece of land at any price.

Whether I wake up next to roaring mountain stream, an ocean view, or beautiful mountains, it sure beats living in a subdivision or condo. Even if you could afford to live somewhere with a million-dollar view, it would be the same view every day. The new would wear off of it and soon it would no longer seem special.

The only way to wake up to these views is to live in an RV

Of course, there's one more thing you have to do and that is to spend a little time searching out these jewels. It takes some effort to find some of these great camping places.

Some of the beautiful places I have camped were free, some I paid $2.50 a night for. Some camping places are more expensive and I have splurged occasionally and camped in resort areas for a night or two that are more expensive.

I also like to stay in an area for a month or more. I get to know the area, and camping for a month at a time in one campground reduces the cost to about half the nightly or weekly rate.

You might think that I must be ripping somebody off to get to stay in such wonderful places for almost free. If you're already living the RV lifestyle, you know that RVers get to live like this.

Of course, as an RVer, you don't always camp with great views. Sometimes you're staying in a Walmart parking lot, or in a campground where rigs are so close together that you can't let your awning out, but that's part of the lifestyle.

Bottom line: If you're still trying to decide if the RVing lifestyle is right for you, you have to realize that the time will never be just right. There will always be some reason why you should wait a little longer. I've never heard an RVer say, "I wish I had waited longer before I started living the RV lifestyle."
