When RVing, it's you against the world
When you're in an RV, you're responsible for everything.
If there's a water leak, an electrical problem, or you're out of propane, you have to take care of it.
If you're in the right location (and you can find somebody to do the work), maybe you can hire someone to fix the problem. But that's not always possible, and it can get expensive to hire an RV tech for every little problem.
Doing preventive maintenance will keep a lot of bad things from happening, but there will always be problems that seem to drop out of the sky.
RVing keeps you on your toes
The picture below shows the river right behind my motorhome, where I'm now parked in the North Carolina mountains. The river is beautiful, and the sound of it at night makes for great sleeping.
But like everything about RVing, sometimes things can go wrong. A few days ago, there was hard rain all day and into the night. The river looks calm in the picture, but it got deep and out of its banks.
I moved my car up the mountain, but I decided to watch the water level and not disconnect everything and move my motorhome until it was absolutely necessary.
The water got almost a foot deep in front of the motorhome, and it was moving so fast that it was hard to stand up as I waded back to my motorhome after moving my car.
Thank goodness it didn't get any deeper before the water level started receding about midnight. I ended up not having to move my motorhome, but it was a close call.
Catching trout during a scary time
Since the river is well stocked with trout, there was plenty of trout in the water in the road in front of my motorhome. One camper actually caught one. When all of this was going on, fishing for trout wasn't on my mind.Bottom line: Accept the fact that when you're RVing, there are a lot of things you can no longer take for granted, such as where the water comes from and where it goes, WiFi and electricity are not always available, campsites are not always available (even if you have reservations). And, of course, things are going to break or malfunction. Accept these things and enjoy the journey.
