Are you too old -- or too young for RV life?

A lot of people are thinking about living the RV lifestyle.

They like the idea of enjoying campfires and sunsets, but they're experiencing self-doubt. Here are the two concerns I hear most often.

A lot of people think they're too old to start living the RV lifestyle.

And a lot of people think they're too young. They're thinking, "I'm not old enough to receive Social Security or a pension, or I don't have a lot of money in savings, or I wouldn't have a secure source of income if I were living on the road." How would I support myself?"

Which category do you fit into?

If you look around a little (in campgrounds or watch YouTube videos), you'll find people who are a lot older and a lot younger than you are who are living the full-time RVing lifestyle, making it work, and having the time of their lives.

You can make it work too. Here's how

If you think you're too old Maybe you're thinking, "I'm not old enough to receive Social Security or a pension, or I don't have a lot of money in savings, or I wouldn't have a secure source of income if I give up my job and start living on the road." How would I support myself?"

Check out RV campgrounds or YouTube videos, and you'll find that way over half of the full-time RVers are retired. Some have been retired for many years.

A lot of people who believe they're too old have some of the following reservations.

  • My friends and family will think I've lost my mind. Yes, a lot of older people have this concern even if they don't say it out loud. Consider this option.

As Steve Jobs said, "Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma -- which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of others' opinions drown out your own inner voice."

  • You may be thinking that living the full-time RV lifestyle is too stressful and too strenuous for you. It's only stressful if you make it stressful. Your attitude causes stress. Moving day can be tiring, but you can break it into two days, and it's not tiring at all. You can do most of the work the day before, and then on moving day, all you have to do is disconnect the power and put the front wheels of your car on the dolly (or hook your car to the hitch if you're towing your car with all four tires on the ground).

  • You have health problems. Yes, having health problems will slow you down, and you may have to plan your life and travels around when and where you can see your doctors, but living in an RV could be a plus instead of a minus. You're free to travel and temporarily live wherever you can find the best doctors for your particular health problem.

  • Being old will make it harder and take longer to do the things required to do when you're living in an RV. Who cares if it takes longer to do things. You have plenty of time.

The RVing lifestyle is not right for everybody. I don't think it's right for most people, but it might be the perfect lifestyle for you. If you're not living full-time in an RV, do your homework, and make sure it's not because you think you're too old or too young.

Bottom line: After reading this article and checking out some of the links, I think you'll realize that being too old or too young is not a valid excuse. You need to either come up with another excuse or get started living the RVing lifestyle.
