Psychology of Living Full-time in an RV

Maybe the girl in this picture is contemplating whether to talk to a psychologist or not to help her deal with some of her problems.

We all have problems, and, contrary to what many people believe, changing your life to start living full-time in an RV will not make all of your problems disappear. It might even add to your problems.

I'm not a psychologist. I've never even taken a psychology course in college.

But I have lived full-time in an RV for over ten years, and I've learned a lot about the psychology of living full-time in an RV during that time.

In this article, I'm going to share with you some of what I've learned. What I'll be telling you is probably not what you were expecting. Let's get started.

Here are some steps you can take to reduce your stress

  • Manage your expectations.

  • Do your research. Watch some YouTube videos, read some books, and check out some blogs. Then, if RVing still intrigues you, just do it. You can always change your mind. Work it out as you go. Realize that no matter how much research you do, you'll never have all the answers.

  • Being away from your friends will be hard -- even if they're a pain at times. You'll build new friends, and you'll enjoy being with your new friends more than you did with your previous friends because you'll have a lot more in common with your new friends than you ever had with your previous friends.

  • Realize that you'll be out of your comfort zone. Be prepared for this, and expect it.

Bottom line: Taking the leap to start living full-time in an RV is a chance to change your life, and get rid of a lot of the things that are causing stress in your life. Keep in mind that it won't happen automatically. A lot of your problems will follow you if you don't take steps to eliminate the stress in your life.
