It's 50 degrees warmer in Galveston

I left the North Carolina mountains last Sunday morning. It was 25 degrees when I went outside to get ready to pull out of my campsite.

My sewer hose was frozen solid. I had to heat several pans of water on the stove to pour on the sewer hose before it would thaw out enough to allow me to drain my tanks.

Since the hose was full of water and frozen, I couldn't even put it back in the bin the way it was. I had to keep heating pans of water and pouring over the hose until the ice finally melted.

When I arrived in Galveston, it was 75 degrees. When it's 50 degrees warmer, my old bones are a lot happier. It got up to 80 here a couple of days this week.

I took three days traveling west to get to Galveston. I spent two nights in Cracker Barrel parking lots on the way. They always seem so happy to have me spend the night with them. I enjoyed eating supper and breakfast with them.

I-10 has a reputation for being rough and bouncy. It lived up to its name. I've heard that just as you get onto I-10 there is a sign that says, "You're getting on I-10. Take out your false teeth, and adjust your bra straps." I didn't see the sign, but after two days of bouncing on I-10, I can understand why that sign should be there.

As I got close to the bay to put my motorhome, car, and dolly on the ferry to come across the bay to Galveston Island, the ferry was a welcome sight.

My view

The picture at the top of the page shows my view of the beach looking from the window of my motorhome.

Here's a picture I took when I was walking on the beach.

Bottom line: That wide beach shown in the picture goes on for 35 miles. It's a great place to walk and clear your mind. It's also a good place for me to be productive and finish writing my latest book.
