Life of an RV nomad
When I stepped out of my motorhome on Thanksgiving morning to go for a walk on the beach and enjoy the sunrise, it was a comfortable 71 degrees.
Sometimes the best way to describe a situation is to show some pictures. That's what I did in this article.
The picture at the top of the page is the view of the beach looking out my kitchen window.
The next two pictures are the views I saw when I stepped out of my motorhome on Thanksgiving morning and looked towards the beach to see the sunrise.
Here's a view from the beach, looking back at my motorhome. It's all shiny in the morning sun. (It should be shiny. I just paid $350 the day before to have it washed and waxed.)
More about the life of an RV nomad
Two weeks ago, I was in the North Carolina mountains enjoying driving on the Blue Ridge Parkway and hiking on mountain trails to breathtaking waterfalls.
Here's a picture of the river behind my campsite.
As you can see in the picture, the mountains are pretty in the fall, but I just checked the weather there, and it was down to 14 degrees last night. It looks like I got out just in time. I like to spend my winters in Florida or Texas, where it's warm.
RVers all have a different story, but the one thing most of them have in common is that they spent Thanksgiving where they wanted to be and doing what they wanted to do.
All of this is to say that the life of an RV nomad can (and does) change at the drop of a hat. If you talk to any one of the thousands of other RV nomads, they will all tell you their story about how and where they spent Thanksgiving while living in their RV. I think the statement below sums up the RV lifestyle.
RV life is total freedom
Bottom line: My Thanksgiving was not your traditional Thanksgiving. I didn't cook a turkey (even though I have an oven and I have cooked a turkey for previous Thanksgiving dinners). I grilled a steak this Thanksgiving, but I didn't miss out on the traditional turkey. My neighbor (who had just pulled in the day before and I didn't know from Adam's house cat) came over mid-afternoon and brought me a plate of turkey and dressing and all the trimmings. That's what I had for supper. You'll find that RVers are a super-friendly bunch.
