When winter reservations hit the fan
What do you do when your campground reservations for the winter months in Florida (which were made a year ago) are canceled after you arrive?
What should you do when the campground is sold, and all reservations are canceled? The place is not even going to be an RV campground any longer.
You could bitch and moan, or rant and rave, but when you finish throwing a temper tantrum, you still have the same problem. The problem is that you don't have a place to camp for the winter.
Finding a great place to camp in your RV in Florida for the winter months at the last minute is not going to happen.
The solution is simple, you forget about your great place and start looking for an okay place to camp.
Below is the view from my window now when I'm sitting at my kitchen table (aka office), but that's going to change in a few days.
I've found a new campground
The new campground that I'll be moving to soon is 30 miles from the ocean. It doesn't have a view, and it doesn't have cable, but the price is a lot less. (With just a view of a wide-open field and no ocean, maybe I'll get more work done.)
Being away from the ocean is not all bad. Below is a picture showing what can happen when you're near salt water for long periods of time.
The good news is that this picture is not showing part of my motorhome. The picture is showing some equipment on a friend's boat that is parked nearby. I'm sure if I stayed here long enough, parts of my motorhome would look like this.
RVers adjust to change
I've already made reservations for four months next winter in Galveston, TX. And yes, I'll be right across the street from the beach. I grew up in the mountains, but I lived almost 20 years on Hilton Head Island, SC. I like the mountains and I like the beach, so since I live in an RV, I can enjoy them both at different times of the year.
The key to enjoying the RVing life is to go with the flow, expect problems, and quickly adjust to change.
Bottom line: Remember, when you stay flexible, you won't get bent out of shape.
