Some airplanes float, does your RV?

My RV floats, how about yours?

I'm sure your RV will float too if you put it on a ferry like I did mine recently when I caught a ferry for a two-mile trip to get to Galveston Island, Texas.

Here's a picture of my motorhome on the ferry. I had my car on the dolly behind it, but you can't see it in this picture.

Unexpected things happen when you travel

I have been RVing for almost nine years, and I had never had a problem with a tire. I put six new tires on my motorhome last year, so I wasn't expecting to have a tire problem on my recent trip from North Carolina to Texas, but I did.

Five miles after I pulled out of the campground last Friday, I heard a loud pop, my tire pressure monitoring system went crazy. When I got pulled over to the side of the road and stopped, I found that it wasn't a tire blowout, but the tire pressure monitor had been ripped off, and it pulled the core out of the valve stem.

Of course, the whole ordeal was my fault because I ran over a bag of trash that was on the road. I couldn't avoid it, and other traffic had been running over it. I think the trash bag got hung up on the tire sensor.

Anyway, I was beside the road with a flat tire. I called Good Sam's Roadside Assistance. They called me back about 30 minutes later and said they could have somebody there to help me in four hours. I had a spare, so I put that on myself and canceled my request for roadside assistance.

The next morning I did have a blowout. One of the tires on my dolly had a blowout. When I got stopped, there wasn't enough of the tire left to tell what happened. Again, the tire pressure monitoring system saved me from what could have been a major problem. The alarm went off, and I stopped immediately. I had a spare, and it was easy to put that on the dolly.

The dolly tires were eight years old, and I had thought about replacing them, but I decided that I would do it later. Everybody knows not to be on the road with tires that are eight years old--even if they are on a dolly. Anybody who doesn't know this should read one of my books--duh.

Again, my TST Tire Pressure Monitoring System saved me. I love that system. I wouldn't want to be on the road without it.

Here's what the dolly tire looked like.

Bottom line: Now for some good news. On my trip from North Carolina to Texas, I spent one night in a Walmart parking lot and one night in a Cracker Barrel parking lot. The Cracker Barrel parking lot was quieter. There were no trucks at Cracker Barrel. I enjoyed both evenings, and of course, FREE is always nice.
