Is Solo RVing Right for You?
When you're RVing solo, the decisions are yours to make, and the consequences are yours to bear.
If you're living solo in a house, condo, or apartment, you might think you're free to make your own decisions, but let's face it--there are not many decisions you can make. Everything is pretty well nailed down, and you can't change anything--at least not on a day-to-day basis.
If you're not RVing, you won't be deciding where to go, how long to stay, or how much money to spend (because you won't have a lot of daily control over your budget like you do when you're living in an RV).
When you're RVing, you're in complete control
For example, when you're living in an RV, you can decide to boondock for a few days or weeks and not spend any money on campgrounds, and you won't be spending any money on gas. If you're not RVing, you can't cut your living expenses to almost zero for a while like you can when RVing.
That's the kind of freedom and control you may have never experienced before. It might take some getting used to. Maybe you don't want that much freedom.
Picture yourself in your RV in the setting below, living without stress while spending very little money (you still have to eat).
I like the solitude of camping in out-of-the-way places away from the rest of the world. Being able to do this is one of the many freedoms you'll experience as an RVer.
Some people think solo RVing would be lonely, scary, or even dangerous, but I've been doing it for ten years, and I've never experienced any of those feelings. I love the lifestyle.
I don't want to over-glamorize the concept of solo RVing. Everything you could list as a plus for solo RVing could also be listed as a minus. Whether something is a pro or a con mostly depends on your attitude. I love the lifestyle, but you may not.
As my grandma used to say
"People are down on what they're not up on." I'm sure that applies to the way a lot of people think about the idea of living solo full-time in an RV.There are several YouTube videos about people living solo full-time in their RVs, but I think most of the videos over glamorize the lifestyle and only show the fun parts.
Everything has downsides, but I love the full-time, solo RVing lifestyle. I like the freedom, and I love to be out traveling and doing things.
Bottom line: Don't let the fear of solo RVing keep you from hitting the road as a full-time RVer. You'll have lots of company. The RV world is full of solo RVers, young and old. And, there are many more women solo RVers than men. You'll be completely safe. Stop and imagine what it would be like to be free and on your own.
