Early morning in a strange town
"To awaken quite alone in a strange town is one of the most pleasant sensations in the world." ~ Freya Stark
Freya Stark was a writer and a traveler. She wrote more than two dozen books about her travels. When she died in 1993, she was a little over 100 years old.
Most people wouldn't want to wake up in a strange town all alone. Maybe they haven't tried it.
When you wake up in a strange town, consider starting your day by going to a local coffee shop. There's no better way to get a feel for the town than to spend time in a local coffee shop.
Whether you just want to relax and enjoy your morning coffee, take your computer and get some work done, or bring a book along and get lost in your own world, there's no better place to do any of these things than at a local, independent coffee shop.
I've written many of my weekly articles and chapters of my books at coffee shops. Most of the time, in the early mornings, I find coffee shops to be quiet.
Coffee shops are a gateway to the soul of an area
Later, in the mornings, as more people arrive, sometimes there can be some chatter, but I treat the chatter as white noise. It doesn't bother me.
Sometimes I find the chatter to be interesting. Listening to some of the conversations can give you a feel for the local area.
Create a life you don't need a vacation from. Live a life of adventure.
I find that spending some time in different local coffee shops is part of the adventure of the RV lifestyle.
Bottom line: One of the reasons a lot of people choose the RV lifestyle is so they can experience different areas of the country. There's no better way to experience and get a feel for an area than to spend some time in a local coffee shop. Give it a try, and I think you'll be surprised at what you experience.
