How Covid changed RVing

During the two years of Covid-forced lockdowns, companies realized that knowledge work could be cost-effectively done outside the office.

During this time, many employees got a taste of working from home or on the road, and now they don't want to give up their newfound freedom.

The Covid experience has made becoming a digital nomad (living in an RV or a foreign country) much more popular. Now, people know that it's not just a pipe dream. It can be a reality.

You can be a digital nomad when you have a location-independent income stream. Having an RV makes it even easier.

Knowledge work can be done from anywhere

I used knowledge workers in Bulgaria, Croatia, and Alaska to do the proofreading, formatting, and cover design of the book I'm working on.

As a digital nomad, you can have multiple streams of income. Most digital nomads do. You have a lot more security when you have multiple streams of income.

Being a location-independent digital nomad with multiple streams of income is fast becoming just as acceptable as any other occupation

Things were slowly moving in this direction, but Covid made this happen decades sooner than it would have happened otherwise.

You can be one of the early adopters of the location-independent movement. You can work for your same company or a new company, do gig work, or work for yourself writing a book, doing photography, computer programming, graphic design, proofreading, or any of dozens of other types of knowledge work.

You can also do a combination of these things. You can work part-time for an employer, do some gig work, and work part of the time on your own projects.

Covid has changed the minds of both employers and employees. They both now realize the many advantages of having knowledgeable workers doing their work outside of the office.

Also, younger people realize they don't have to wait until they retire to live the RV lifestyle. They can be a digital nomad with location-independent streams of income.

If you're beginning to think the hampster wheel lifestyle is not for you, maybe it's time to consider the RV lifestyle and become a digital nomad.

Bottom line: Covid has convinced companies that having people work outside the office is a cost-effective way to get knowledge work done. And the most important thing is that employees have realized that the freedom to work from anywhere is priceless. RVers are taking advantage of the changing times.
