Serendipity, and why I don't have a bucket list
Many of my best and most memorable RVing experiences just happened.
They weren't planned. That's called serendipity.
Serendipity is defined as "The occurrence and development of events by chance in a happy or beneficial way."
That sure describes a lot of my best RVing experiences.
I've found that many times what I fall in love with about a place is not what brought me there.
G.K. Chesterton, the famous English writer and journalist, said,
The traveler sees what he sees. The tourist sees what he has come to see.
That describes RVers. That also explains why I don't have a bucket list. I like to experience life. I have no desire to see the many things that everyone else in the world says I must see. I want to experience the world, and the people and things in it.
There are plenty of pictures and videos if I just wanted to see things.
My experience is that when I see something that would be on somebody's bucket list, I see a swarm of people with their cell phones out taking pictures. If you go a mile off of the main path, you can experience what's really important in that area.
When I'm sitting around a campfire talking to other RVers, I hear them talking more about what they've experienced in their RV travels than about what they've seen.
Bottom line: I've been in Costa Rica for almost two months. I'll be here for three more months. It's amazing how fast five months can go by. I've already planned to be here for six months next year. I would live here permanently if didn't love the RVing lifestyle so much. There are a lot of things to see and do here, but there is so much to experience.
