Hiking among coffee and bananas
I'm in different mountains
I hope everyone is enjoying this summer of RVing.
The picture at the top of the page shows me on one of my daily mountain hikes through the coffee fields and bananas while I was in Costa Rica.
The bananas grow wild all over the acres and acres of coffee plants. A lot of the coffee is on the sides of the mountains that are so steep that I don't see how people stand up to pick the coffee. Most of the trails wind around and are not so steep, but in some places, the trails can get pretty steep for my old bones.
Back in the North Carolina mountains
The mountains here look about the same as the ones in Costa Rica, but what's growing on the sides of the mountains is vastly different. There are no mangos, avocados, bananas, or coffee growing around here.
I have my motorhome parked next to the Watauga River. There's an apple tree right next to me. I can hear the river at night. It's not loud, but more like steady white noise.
I'm at the first campsite in the park, and every RV that comes in or leaves has to pass by me. I get to see all of the RVs.
RVs and RVers come in all different sizes and shapes
It's amazing how many different types of rigs there are—from pop-ups to mega-size motorhomes.
There are a lot of weekend campers coming in on Friday afternoons and leaving on Sunday mornings. Those are busy times. There are a lot more kids on the weekends. During the week, a lot of the campers are retired people that are here long-term.
I enjoy meeting RVers. They're all so friendly and interesting to talk to.
My campsite is down by the river, so the only way I can hike is to go up the mountain. It's steep, so it's a good workout.
School starts in most areas near here this week, so the mix of campers will change.
