The joy doing mediocre things
Doing mediocre things is not all bad. It can be fun and exciting. The best part is that your expectations are low.
It doesn't take much to surprise you or make you happy when you're not expecting much.
You don't always have to be experiencing grand and wonderful things to be happy.
I was eating pizza with some friends one evening, and someone asked a member of the group how she liked the pizza. She said, "It's good, but I've had better." Does that mean you can't enjoy a slice of pizza unless it's the best you've ever tasted?
Can enjoy an ordinary slice of pizza, or camping in a mediocre campsite with a view that's nice, but not spectacular?
It's easy to get into the habit of always wanting bigger and better things, and always wanting to see and experience more wonderful things that we forget to enjoy some of the more or less ordinary things in life.
I can understand that when you're on a one or two-week vacation, you want to see and experience the best the area you're in has to offer. But since you're not on vacation, you have the luxury of enjoying and appreciating some of the more mediocre things.
Bottom line: Consider lowering your expectations and try enjoying the mundane things around you. I think you'll find it less stressful, more relaxing, and best of all, I think you'll find life more enjoyable.
Note: I was playing with the design of this website to make the page wider, and I accidentally screwed it up. I lost the top banner and all of the color. I'm getting ready to leave the NC mountain on Monday and driving to Florida where it's warmer. When I get there I'll have time to work on this site and fix what I messed up.
