Volcano erupting this week six miles from my house

I may soon get kicked out of Costa Rica

There's trouble in paradise, but I promise I didn't cause it.

I'm going to lie low and not let the powers-that-be know I'm in the country. If they find out I'm here in Costa Rica, I'm sure they will immediately kick me out.

Here's why:

A few months back, a major hurricane hit Cedar Key, Florida, while I was there, destroying many homes and most of the island's businesses. I was also in Banner Elk, NC, last year, when a hurricane hit the area and totaled my motorhome and many homes.

Now, I'm in Costa Rica, and six miles away from my house, a volcano has been erupting all week with more force than it has had in years.

It usually only releases a small puff of white smoke and steam, but it's been super active this week. It erupted on Monday and twice on Thursday morning and blew rock, ash, steam, and smoke 10,000 feet up in the air.

The wind must have been blowing in the other direction because I didn't see any smoke or ash on Thursday. But, Monday, volcanic ash settled on everything and made the sky dark. I'm sure it wasn't good to be breathing the air.

Here's a picture taken during the Thursday eruption from 15 miles away.

I'm sure that if the officials find out I'm here, they'll be convinced I'm causing all this havoc.

If the volcano ever starts spewing lava, I won't have to worry about it reaching me because there are two mountain ridges between me and the volcano, but I have to deal with the air quality.

The volcano on a typical day

This is what the volcano has looked like for years, puffing out a little steam and white smoke on most days.

Bottom line: As Jimmy Buffett says in the words of his song at the link below:

"I don't know where I'm gonna go when the volcano blows."
