What projects are you working on?

The other day, I was making small talk with a guy, and I asked him what projects he was working on.

He had a surprised look on his face, and he said, "What do you mean, what projects am I working on? I'm retired. I'm not working on any project."

I would find it hard to be happy or motivated if I weren't working on one or more projects. Whether you're working on building a flower garden, designing a greenhouse, writing a book, restoring an old car, or planning a trip, these are all fun projects.

Having a project to work on keeps life interesting. At least it does for me. I usually have several projects I'm working on or thinking about at any time.

I could never be bored

There are too many things I want to do to be bored. I sometimes feel like I'm always behind, but I have to accept the fact that I'll always be behind, because I have more things I want to do than I'll ever get done.

If you're retired, it's even more important to have projects to work on. Having a project you're interested in and enjoy is the best, but sometimes, there are projects (or chores) you just want to complete and get out of the way so you can get back to the things you want to do.

Things on your "Honey-do" list are more like chores. Those are the things you have to get done, so you can get back to the fun projects you enjoy working on.

As Larry the Cable Guy is famous for saying, sometimes you just need to "Git-R-Done."

Some projects I'm working on:

  • Writing another book

  • Learning Spanish

  • Learning to play my fiddle better. (I sold my banjo before I moved to Costa Rica.)

These projects just need more time. I have more free time living here in Costa Rica than I did in the US. There are not as many distractions here.

Bottom line: Having projects to work on, or that you're planning to work on, keeps life interesting. What projects are you working on?
