Do you have to be perfect?

We've all heard Larry the Cable Guy's popular phrase, "Git-R-Done."

It means to just do it. Another popular phrase is "Done trumps everything." That's another way of saying just do it. It doesn't have to be perfect.

Keeping these two phrases in the back of my mind helps keep me from procrastinating.

But do you sometimes need to be perfect?

Most of the time, it's better to get things done, even with a few mistakes, than to take longer trying to do things just right. But maybe not always.

I have a friend who works in the nursery at a hospital here. If she needed to move all the babies from cribs on one side of the nursery to cribs on the other side of the room, how many babies would it be okay to drop?

You wouldn't expect her to be perfect and not drop any of the babies, would you?

Would it be okay to drop this one&##x3f;

Would it be okay to drop this one?

I often think about the question, "How many babies is it okay to drop?" when I'm tempted to cut corners and get something done.

Bottom line: It's a balancing act. Sometimes you need to just get things done in a hurry, even with a few mistakes, and sometimes you need to make sure you don't drop any babies.
