I shut my computer down for a week.
Close your computer for a week?
Could you close your computer for a week?
Last week I left my computer in the motorhome and went on a one-week cruise in the Caribbean.
Internet is available on a cruise ship, but it's expensive. I decided not to take my computer with me so I wouldn't be tempted.
I did have my phone, and I use Google Fi. I get phone service and emails in 193 countries. But we sailed to the Grand Caymans and went around Cuba. All the time we were near Cuba, my phone had a message on the screen saying, "Google does not have service in Cuba."
Google covers 193 countries, but Cuba is not one of them
When I use my phone as a hotspot, I have 50 GB of unlimited data a month, so I could have taken my computer and done a lot of work (except when I was near Cuba), but I decided not to.
I've written six books this year and needed a break from computers and writing.
I had just finished the first draft of my latest book, and it was a good time to let it marinate for a week or so before I started editing and rewriting. That's what I did. I didn't even think about the book for a week.
I've been back at it full speed this week, rewriting and self-editing. I'll turn it over to my proofreaders and beta readers this weekend, and I can get started on another project.
Bottom Line: Consider taking a break from your computer for a week and see if the world stops spinning. My one week of test data shows that it wouldn't, but your results may vary.
