Thinking about what he could have done

Thinking about what he could have done

Are you ready for a new year?

I hope you had a wonderful Christmas.

It's hard to believe another year has gone by. I moved to Costa Rica a little over a year ago, but it seems like it was only yesterday.

I have to leave the country every six months to renew my tourist visa. I could step across the border into Panama or Nicaragua and come right back, and that would work, and I've done that before.

This time I went back to the US and visited my son for four days. Surprisingly, on my way back, it felt like I was coming home. And when I walked back into my house, I felt like I was home. After living somewhere for a year, I guess it should feel like home.

There's an old saying, "Wherever you go, there you are."

I think the saying was meant to convey that you can't run away from your problems and that you take your problems with you wherever you go. But to me, I look at it a different way, and think that home is wherever I am.

Maybe that feeling comes from living and traveling for 13 years in my motorhome. Wherever I was, I was always home.

There are no impressive words of wisdom and nothing profound in this week's article

I'm just thinking about the past year and the coming year. There are no plans to change anything this year. I'm content with everything as it is.

I don't have a bucket list, and I don't make New Year's resolutions, but I will give it some thought and decide if there's anything different I want to do this year, probably not.

I'm content doing exactly what I'm doing now—living in Costa Rica, writing books, and hiking up the mountains through the bananas and coffee plants.

Bottom line: If you're planning on making a change in your life someday, remember that today is someday. If you're not going to do it now, when?

Whatever you do, you don't want to be sitting in a rocking chair on the front porch of a nursing home saying, "I thought about doing so and so, but I never got around to making a decision and actually doing it, but I could have."
