Do You Listen to Audiobooks?
The audiobook market is growing way faster than print books or eBooks.
Here are some market growth data for the past year.
- eBook sales decreased by 5%
- Print book sales increased by 8%
- Audiobook sales increased by 32%
My sales have verified this point. I had a narrator create audiobook versions of the last two books I published, and I am making more from the audiobook sales than I am from the eBook and printed book versions combined.
The profit from the audiobook sales for those two books quickly earned enough to cover the cost of hiring a narrator. You can bet that I'll be publishing an audiobook version of my future books. (I'll be announcing a new book next week.)
An interesting point
48% of audiobook listeners are below 35 years old. Maybe that explains why when I created an audiobook version of one of my earlier books, "Secrets of RVing on Social Security", that audiobook didn't sell nearly as well. People below 35 are not interested in RVing on Social Security. The audiobook still made me money and more than covered the cost to hire the narrator, but the sales are much lower every month than my two recent books, which are of interest to both older and younger listeners. In the right Nav. panel, the top three pictures are linked to my audiobooks.
How to start listening to audiobooks for free
If you would like a free copy of one of my audiobooks, send me an email, and I'll send you a Promo code that will allow you to download the audiobook free of charge. Just tell me which audiobook you would like to listen to. Here's my email address. Jminchey at g mail dot com. There's almost no work involved in creating an audiobook when you hire a narrator. You do have to go through the manuscript and change the wording in a few places. You have to delete the comments about pictures, and you have to omit most links. No one is going to remember a long link.
Bottom line: Publishing an audiobook version of my last two books has more than doubled my income from those books. This makes writing books way more profitable.
