Easy RV Modification Projects
There's a never-ending list of modifications you could make to your RV.
There's no end to the list of things you could do to your RV to make it more functional, safer, and more enjoyable. On second thought, I guess there is an end to the list. The end comes when you run out of money, or at least until you run out of the money that you have allotted for RV modifications.
Some RV modifications are expensive (such as adding solar panels or converting to lithium batteries). And most RV modification projects can get expensive unless you're able to do the work yourself.
Other RV modifications are not so expensive, but they take a lot of your time. In fact, I've found that most of the projects I've undertaken end up taking way longer than I expected.
My most recent project
I just finished replacing the skylight/vent fan in my bathroom with a new, Fantastic fan. The new fan is wonderful. It's quiet, and I can open any window and get a wonderful breeze when the fan is on. I can even fry things without the smoke alarm going off.Replacing the fan looked like it would be a quick and relatively easy job. It was easy (after watching a few YouTube videos), but the project took way longer than I expected. I ended up working on it off and on for three days, and I made several trips up on the roof. But now the installation is complete, it looks professional, and I'm happy with my new fan.
Other RV modifications I've completed
- Added external sensors to my black tank and gray tank.
- Replaced my kitchen faucet.
- Replaced my old carpet with laminated hardwood flooring. (I hired someone to do this project.)
- Replaced my small TV with a large, flatscreen TV.
- Installed a tire pressure monitoring system. (I wouldn't want to be without this system.)
- Converted my coach batteries to using three lithium-ion batteries. (Some charging modules had to be changed also.)
- Installed a cross-bar handle on my door. This is one of the easiest, lowest cost (less than $20 on Amazon), and most useful modifications I'm made to my motorhome. Here's a picture of it.
- Installed a Progressive Industries surge protector.
- Installed a washer/dryer combo. This project was expensive (about $1,000) and it took a while to do the plumbing and wiring. Even though I'm only doing laundry for one person, I love it. The good part is that even though it was expensive upfront, it soon paid for itself by not having to put quarters in laundromats. Here's a picture of the installed washer/dryer.
Two other projects that are on my to-do list
- Mount my new Predator 3500 Inverter on a slideout tray. I have already removed the old generator that was leaking oil big time and then finally died. That was a major ordeal. It shouldn't take long to mount the slideout tray to hold the new invertor. This is the next project I'm going to tackle.
- I have purchased the SoftStart RV air conditioner soft start kit to install on one of my air conditioners so I can start and run my air conditioner with my inverter. I have been putting this project off because I won't need it until I'm boondocking.
Bottom line: What RV modifications are you working on, recently finished, or planning to work on soon to make your RV more functional, safer, and more.? Let me know in the Discussion Forum.
