Finding ways to save money may not be the best way to afford the RVing lifestyle

Websites and RVing Blogs have articles by the hundreds about how to save money while you're RVing.

You can find a lot of good advice and learn techniques for saving money from these websites. But finding ways to save money may not be the best way to afford the RVing lifestyle.

When there is some gadget you want or something you want to do, instead of asking yourself, "How can I save up enough money to pay for this?" ask yourself, "What can I do to make the extra money to pay for this?"

A possibility that most RVers don't seriously consider is the idea of trying to find ways to make some extra money. For most people, an extra $1,000 a month would work wonders for their budget. In fact, an extra $200 or $300 would solve a lot of problems.

Ways to Make Extra Money While RVing

Some of the techniques described here will bring in cash almost immediately and some of them will bring the money in later, but the money will keep coming in month after month. You may want to use one of each type of money-making technique. Here are some things to consider:

  • Sell a lot of the junk that's in storage. Use eBay and Craigslist to make this happen.

  • Write a book. In fact, write several books every year. Amazon and CreateSpace (which is owned by Amazon) will show you how to publish your book in both the eBook and the printed book format. If you need more help, there are plenty of books on Amazon for $2.99 that will show you how to make it happen. How-to books are a lot easier to write, but novels outsell How-to books by about 20 to 1. There is zero cost to write a book and get a printed copy in your hand and it will continue to bring in cash year after year. Don't worry about trying to write a best seller. You just want to learn how to do it and get your book on the market. Then your next book will be a lot easier. You can go to www.GoOnWrite.com and pick out a cover, or design your own.

Make short three to five-minute videos and post them on YouTube. Monetize your videos and YouTube will pay you every month based on how many people view your videos and a few other factors. You don't need expensive equipment. You can make profitable videos using the video camera in your cell phone.

  • Sell things on Amazon. You can buy things at yard sales, at Goodwill, closeout items at Walmart or buy things from China (with free shipping). You can even have Amazon ship the items for you. Use Amazon's FBA (Fulfill by Amazon) program.

  • Get a job. You can get a Workamping job, such as working at Amazon and get free camping plus a salary during the months of Oct., Nov., and Dec. In any town you can get a part-time job as a waiter or waitress, cleaning rooms at motels, working at the front desk, cleaning bathrooms at the campground, etc. These are not "positions." They are "jobs," and they pay minimum wage. The good thing is that these jobs are part-time. There is no stress and you can quit anytime you want to. Don't think this work is beneath you. You need the exercise, and the jobs can be enjoyable. There is no advancement and this is not your career. It's just extra money.

The things I've listed above are not the only ways to make a little extra money while RVing.

I have not included all of the information you will need for any of these techniques, but select the one or two that interest you and start learning how to do it. Watch some YouTube videos and buy a few $2.99 eBooks and you can soon have all the knowledge you need to put your plan into action.

You don't have to hit a home run on your first project. Just follow Larry the Cable Guy's advice and "Gitter done."

Bottom line: The most important thing is to make a decision and then make it happen. If you have any questions about any of these topics, let me know. I use all of these techniques to make money every month. I'll be happy to answer your questions. Just post them in the Discussion Forum. Also, keep in mind that it's good to have more than one source of income.
