Florida Migration

I left Florida on Sunday, April 1st and joined the other million RVers who were leaving Florida and headed north for the summer months.

I call it the Annual Florida RV Exodus

Most of the RVs were going to Michigan, Wisconsin, Vermont, etc. and even Canada. I didn't go as far north as most of them. I only went to the NC mountains, but it has been plenty cold here this week. Last year I didn't head north until mid-April. I think I will do the same thing next year.

I stopped for the night at a Walmart north of Savannah, GA. I counted 31 other RVs parked there. Below is what the Walmart parking lot looked like. You can't see many of the RVs in this picture, but take my word for it. There were a lot of them there.

By the way, it's always a good idea to call and check with the Walmart where you're planning to stay. The rules change. The Walmart in Savannah no longer allows RVs to park overnight, but the one in Brunswick, GA just south of Savannah does and the one north of Savannah at Walterboro, SC does. That's where I stayed. Over the years, I've stayed at all three of them at one time or another.

I might get snow on my motorhome tonight

There is a chance of snow here in the mountains tonight at the higher elevations. I'm near the higher elevations. I'm boondocking for two weeks about halfway up to Mt. Mitchell (the highest mountain east of the Mississippi). I had to take a steep, crooked dirt road to get to where I am. I probably shouldn't be taking a Class A motorhome and towing a dolly and my car to this area, but I made it.

Six years ago when I first started living in my motorhome full time, I spent some time in the snow. Below is a picture looking out the windshield at the snow. It didn't take me long to realize that I didn't like RVing in the snow. My bones don't like cold weather.

To make matters worse my furnace stopped working. I didn't use it much this winter in Florida, but now it's dead. I have a replacement circuit board ordered. Maybe I will get it fixed in a few days. I do have my Mr. Buddy propane heater that warms the RV quickly in the mornings. I don't run it overnight. If I got really cold, I could crank up my generator and also run an electric heater I have.

Oh well, summer will be here soon and my bones will be happy to be hiking through the woods.
