Bananas growing wild in the coffee fields

Hiking through coffee and bananas

I love to go hiking in the mountains.

Whether I'm in North Carolina or Costa Rica, I like to go hiking in the mountains.

Most mornings, I spend some time hiking in the mountains through the coffee fields here in Costa Rica.

Mornings are my most productive time, but if I wait until the afternoon to go hiking, there's a good chance it will be raining.

During the rainy season, it starts raining about noon and rains until bedtime.

Most people don't want a stalk of bananas

A stalk of bananas is too heavy to carry very far, and also, most people don't want a full stalk of bananas because they all get ripe about the same time.

That's why you often see stalks of bananas that someone has cut down with a machete. Then, people can pull off a few and take them home without having a carry a heavy stalk. Seeing stalks of bananas on the ground is a common sight.

Most of the time, they stay there and get ripe, and nobody takes many of them. Most people already have more bananas than they can use.

Below are some photos I took while hiking yesterday

These are not bananas. They're Plantains

Plantains look like bananas, but they're larger, and you don't eat them raw. You wait until they are fully ripe and turn from yellow to mostly black. Then you peel them and fry them. They are very sweet.

What do you like to do that makes you happy?

Bottom line: You have to find or make your own happiness. There's no single recipe for a happy life.
