I'm moving to Costa Rica to live full-time
I told you in a previous article that I would have some surprising news coming soon. This is it.
I've been spending a few months in Costa Rica off and on for the last 16 years.
I spent the last six months living there. I love the country, the climate, the food, the low cost of living, and most of all, the warm, friendly people.
I plan to spend the next six months (three months in the NC mountains and three months in Florida) completing 101 things I need to do before I move to Costa Rica.
I'll need to sell my car and motorhome, and I have a small storage unit I need to empty out. Before I sell my motorhome, I need to fix some things to put it back in top-notch condition.
I'll return to the US every six months
I'll still be returning to the US every six months to visit family and friends. Since I'll be staying in Costa Rica on a tourist visa, I'll be required to leave the country every 180 days.
I could walk across the border into Nicaragua or Panama, get my passport stamped, and be legal for another 180 days. I've done this in the past, back when a tourist visa was only good for 90 days.
Later, I might apply to become a resident, and I would no longer have to do a border run every 180 days, but that takes about $2,000 and two years, so I'll do the border runs for now.
Another option is to apply for a digital nomad visa, and then I could stay for two years without leaving the country. For now, I'll stick with the tourist visa. I will want to come back and visit family and friends every six months anyway.
Bottom line: I'll tell you more about this project in future articles, but for now, I need to get busy learning more Spanish and repairing my motorhome to get it ready to sell. I'll also soon reveal how this website will change, but nothing will change immediately.
