Is Fear Holding You Back?

Is Fear Holding You Back&##x3f;

This little kitten knows fear. If I were that little, I would probably be afraid of everything too.

If you have a dream of living full time in an RV and you're not doing it yet, my guess is that fear is playing a major role in holding you back. It's not the money.

The idea of taking a risk conjures up feelings of fear. It's a normal and natural reaction. Fear helps keep us safe, but sometimes it's easy to let fear have more control over our actions than is warranted. When thinking about fear and RVing, keep the following quote in mind. . .

"Fear is only temporary. Regrets last forever." ~ Anonymous

One of the best ways to overcome fear is to arm yourself with knowledge and information. The more you know about a situation, the less fear there will be in the decision to go forward.

I think that's what you're doing now. You're getting the information you need to make an informed decision and implement it.

Fear shows up in many forms

There's the fear of getting hurt like why we didn't want to jump off of the high diving board when we were kids. That's not the fear you're dealing with here. You don't really think you might get hurt if you start living the RVing lifestyle.

Here are some of the fears you're probably concerned about (even though you may not want to admit all of them).

  • Fear that your friends will think you're being totally irresponsible.

  • Fear that you'll run out of money.

  • Fear that you'll blow what money you have and have to come home and try to find a job and a place to live.

  • Fear that you won't like the lifestyle, and then have to admit that you were wrong.

  • Fear of embarrassment when things don't work out.

My guess is that your biggest fears are that you won't be able to earn the money it will take to make it work. Fear that it won't work out, and then listening to your family and friends saying, I told you so. Even if they don't say it, you know that's what they will be thinking.

Most people don't want to admit it, but these are the fears that keep them from taking the plunge and living full time in an RVing.

Don't be afraid that something will go wrong. Accept the fact that for sure something will go wrong, and then something else will go wrong. That's the RVing lifestyle. If you can't handle that, this life is not for you.

Bottom line: Fear will never go away completely, but as you gain confidence in your ability to handle the different situations that full-time RV living throws at you, fear will lose its control over you. Fear is useful to make sure you do your research and consider the risks, but it should not have veto power over your decisions.
