What does your perfect life look like?

Is it okay to change your mind?

Many people view changing your mind about something unfavorably.

Whether it's changing your career, moving somewhere different, ending your marriage, or even changing your mind about how you want to live your life, it's not automatically a mistake.

But people often view changing your mind as a failure.

Often the consensus is, "Why didn't you get it right the first time?"

But what makes us think that what we wanted at age 29, 49, or 69 is what we should want now?

The world changes. We change. The facts are different. Why should your younger, less experienced self dictate what you want and do today? The decisions you made back then don't have to control what you do now.

After college, I worked for several years as an engineer. Then I quit working as an electronic design engineer and ran my own company for many years.

Then, I lived and traveled in a motorhome for 13 years. Two years ago, I sold my motorhome and moved to Costa Rica.

Every time I made one of these major changes, I'm sure people were saying, or at least thinking, "Why in the world did he do that?"

Why would anyone in their right mind decide, at 82, to sell everything and move to Costa Rica?

Changing your mind is not necessarily a mistake

Maybe everything in your life is just the way you want it to be. If it is, that's great. Don't change anything.

When you ask yourself what your perfect life would look like, also ask: what is the real reason you can't live that life now?

Bottom line: If you're not happy with some things in your life, how you're living, or what you're doing, remember that changing your mind and doing something different is not a failure.
