Is this the perfect place to retire?
Every retirement place has its pros and cons.
Even if you were retired and sitting on your front porch looking at this view of Nigeria Falls, you might find yourself wishing you were on a beach in the Caribbean along about mid-January.
If you found what you thought was the perfect place to retire, you would probably get tired of it sooner or later.
Amazing as it would seem to live next to the Grand Canyon, Nigeria Falls, or even on the French Riviera, it might soon get old. (And think of all the relatives that would constantly be coming to visit if you lived next to one of these magnificent places.)
No place will seem special forever
Whether you think you would like to retire and live near the beach or live in the mountains or on a lake, there is always the problem that after a while, you will most likely find that the amazing place you have found will become ordinary. It will no longer seem special. In other words, it won't remain special forever. You wouldn't want to eat your favorite meal every day (whether it's a ribeye steak or your grandmother's lasagna). Likewise, the place you think is so wonderful will soon lose its charm and appeal if you're there all the time.
$3,500 a month or $600 a month?
Where I'm camped for the winter, I'm across the road from the beach. There's a beach house for rent next to me. It's available to rent for $3,500 a month for two people.
I pay $600 a month to rent my campsite to park my motorhome. That includes electricity, water, sewer, Wi-Fi, and cable TV. I have access to two swimming pools, free putt-putt golf, a clubhouse with ping pong and pool tables, and there are a lot of other recreational facilities that are not available to the renters of the beach house.
I like the freedom to roam
When I get tired of a place (which I do after two or three months), I crank the motorhome and go somewhere else. I like the North Carolina Mountains, I like the beaches, I like New England, and I like the Pacific North West (you can have the desert areas).I like foreign countries also. I like the tropical parts of Australia. I like New Zealand, parts of Europe, and I like the Latin American countries--particularly Costa Rica.
In other words, I would hate to have to pick one place to live all the time. After two or three months in a place, I'm ready to move somewhere else. When I leave a place, it doesn't mean that I will never go back. In fact, many times, I go back to a place I have visited before and stay a few months again.
Bottom line: Most of all, I like the freedom to experience and enjoy different places. What makes it even more wonderful is the fact that this lifestyle is way less expensive than being stuck in one location all the time. Yes, being in one location has some advantages, but give me the freedom to live in different places, and I'm happy. Living in an RV gives me that freedom.
