Is your RV life a journey or a destination?
Ralph Waldo Emerson said, "Life is a journey, not a destination."
For some RVers, it's both, and for some, it's neither. But what about your RV life?
I've been living full-time on the road in my motorhome for ten years now, and I've decided that RV life can be a journey or a destination. It's your choice. Let me explain.
Some RVers I've met have plans to visit every National Park or every state or some other definable goal.
The RVers who say they want to visit every state have to decide what they mean by visiting a state. Does driving through the state count? Some say they don't count it unless they spend the night in a state. It's your game, so you get to set the rules.
If you looked at everything in life as a destination, then dancing would be all about ending up at a certain place on the dance floor. And when you're listening to music, the only joy would be to hear the song's last note.
I don't consider my RV life to be a destination
Many people go through their whole life chasing one destination after another. They thought they would be happy when they got out of school, or when they got married, or when the kids were grown and out of the house, or when the house was paid off, or when they retired. Many people go through life thinking they'll be happy when.
For some people, happiness is always just over the horizon
I've found that no destination will make you happy for very long. Stop chasing them. I'm convinced that any happiness found at a destination will be short-lived.
I don't have a bucket list of things I want to see or do. If I had a bucket list, I would be putting myself on a hamster wheel for no apparent reason. I wanted to get away from that kind of life. That's why I chose the RV lifestyle.
I'm free as a bird. If I want to sleep until noon, I can. But I'm usually up by 5:00 a.m. every day. I have so many things I look forward to doing.
Bottom line: Do you consider your RV life to be a journey or a destination? Do you have a bucket list? Do you have a favorite destination? The only place I want to be is where I am at the moment. Maybe that is a destination.
