Would your life be boring without problems?
If someone asked me that question, I would say, "I don't know, but I would sure like to try a life with no problems for a while."
We all have problems. But, I'm not talking about little problems. I'm talking about major problems, such as getting up in the morning and realizing you don't have any coffee.
Seriously, everyone has problems, and it sometimes feels like we RVers have more than our share, but if you've been RVing for long, you've learned to deal with problems.
Here are the problems one RVer had to deal with yesterday
I carried an RV friend to the airport yesterday to catch his flight back to the US from Costa Rica after being here for over a month.
After I let him off at the airport, he found out that the airport was shut down, the doors were locked, and thousands of people were standing outside waiting to find out what was happening.
He soon found out that a DHL cargo plane had crashed on the runway, and the airport would be shut down for the rest of the day. All flights had been canceled.
With thousands of people in the same situation he was in, there was no way to get a taxi or Uber to take him 35 miles back to his apartment. And he couldn't get through on the phone to talk to any airline to rebook a flight.
After seven hours on three different buses, changing busses in three different towns, he finally got back to his apartment and was able to rent it for a few more days.
It got worse
In the process of changing buses three times, he lost his phone.
I hope you haven't had a day like this, but if you haven't, I'm sure you will have one just as bad if you keep RVing much longer.
By the way, my friend dealt with the problem positively. He said he was happy that he would get to stay in Costa Rica for three more days.
As Yvon Chouinard (the owner and founder of Patagonia) said,
"It's not an adventure until something goes wrong."
Bottom line: The key to being happy as an RVer doesn't depend on what happens to you but on how you react to what happens to you. I think that's true in all aspects of life.
