Are you thinking about living in an RV?

Recently I've had a lot of emails from people who are considering living the RVing lifestyle.

I can understand why. With the way the world is going lately, I can see that the RVing lifestyle seems pretty attractive to a lot of people. It's more simple and more carefree than most traditional lifestyles.

Do your research

My advice is first to do your research. There are so many different ways to live the RVing lifestyle. Of course, it depends on your budget, but it also depends on a lot of other things. The most important thing is to ask yourself, "What kind of life do I want to live?"

You can change your mind (and most people do) after you get started.

RVing is not just constantly traveling and seeing the country. A lot of RVers do this. They want to visit all states in the continental U.S., or they want to visit all of the National Parks. That's not my style. I like to stay in one place for a month or longer.

Make a list

This is not like Santa Claus's list. You don't have to check it twice. But it is important that you write down what's important to you and what you want to accomplish by living in an RV.

Get out a piece of paper and write down what's important to you. How do you want to live? Why do you want to live in an RV? What do you want to do and see? Why and how do you want to change your life?

For example, do you like to boondock (camp free where there is no water or electricity)? Is your main goal to save money? Is it to get away from the rat race?

Give serious thought to why you want to live in an RV and what parts of your life you want to change.

What you want to do and how you want to travel will determine what kind of RV will be better for you. Large, Class A RVs are not as well suited for boondocking as smaller rigs.

Are you looking for freedom like what is shown in this picture?

What are the lifestyle goals you want to accomplish?

What do you picture yourself doing on a day-to-day basis when you're RVing? Living in an RV is not a vacation. If you try to live like you're on a vacation, you'll run out of energy and money in a hurry.

When you're RVing, you'll likely be more active, you'll be outside more, and you'll be mentally more active too. In other words, it's a healthier lifestyle.

Living in an RV is not the only way to change your life

You could live in a different country or in a different part of the country you're in. How about living in a condo downtown or in a rural area on a small farm? How about living on a boat? There are lots of ways to change your lifestyle. Most of them don't require a lot of money, but they do require that you make a decision.

Of course, there's also the possibility that you're happy with your life just the way it is, but I doubt that. If you were, you probably wouldn't be reading this article.

With the turmoil the country and your life are in now, this is the perfect time to give some serious thought to whether you're living the life you want to live. If you decide that you're not, do your research, make a decision, make a plan, and make it happen.

Bottom line: Do your soul-searching, homework, and research. Make sure you have realistic goals and expectations about the changes you want to make in your life. Whatever you do, make a decision. Don't go through life thinking you might make a change someday.
