Living in the jungle can be relaxing
Living past the age of 100
Would you like to live to be over 100 years old and still be sharp as a tack?
I live six months out of the year in the jungles and mountains of Costa Rica near one of the five Blue Zones in the world.
A Blue Zone is an area where a large percentage of the residents live past the age of 100.
If you only live near a Blue Zone, does that help?
Since I live near a Blue Zone but not actually in a Blue Zone, does that mean that I may only make it to 98 or 99 and not all the way to 100? On top of that, I'm only there for six months out of the year, so does that mean that I will only make it to 96 or 97?
The best way to know for sure if I make it to 100 is to keep checking this website for a few more years, and I'll let you know. I do have a lot of members of my family who live past 100. Maybe that will help my odds, too.
I think long life comes down to diet, exercise, and, most importantly, lack of stress, and that's what the RVing lifestyle is all about.
Don't let stress creep into your life. I've seen people get totally stressed out trying to back an RV into a camping space. Don't worry if it takes three, seven, or 27 tries to get your RV backing into your space. Your campsite is not going anywhere. It will still be there.
The people I know and have seen in the Blue Zone in Costa Rica are not vegetarians, but they don't eat a large amount of meat. They eat mainly fresh fruits and veggies and a lot of beans and rice. Another factor is that people in Blue Zones don't tend to overeat.
Exercise is important, but I've never seen a health club or gym in a Blue Zone. People stay active all day, walking and working in their yards and gardens. They also have an active social life. They spend a lot of time with family and friends. Being with their family is important to them.
As I've said before, they don't get stressed out. They don't worry about a schedule. If something doesn't get done today, it can be done tomorrow or the next day (or maybe not at all).
Dementia is almost unheard of in a Blue Zone.
In addition to living for a long time, most of the people living in a Blue Zone stay sharp as a tack all their lives. There are downsides to everything, but so far, I haven't found many downsides to living in or near a Blue Zone. If you're looking for a lot of excitement and a fast pace of life, you won't find that in a Blue Zone. Maybe that's the downside.
Bottom line: The song "Don't worry. Be happy." was written and recorded by Bobby McFerrin. The words of this song sum up the no-stress lifestyle. I you would like to listen to the song, I've included a link to it below. Adopt this attitude, and it might add several years to your life.
