Enjoying a Slack Tide
Enjoying a Slack Tide

Not Required to have an Opinion

There's a lot going on in the world.

It can seem overwhelming at times, but if you stop and think about it, we're not even required to have an opinion.

Slack Tide

On Jimmy Buffett's new album, Life on the Flip Side, he has a song called Slack Tide.

A slack tide is that moment just before the tide turns when the water is calm and the world seems to take a beat. Maybe that's where we are now.

It does seem like the world has stopped. So instead of getting stressed out, maybe we should be like the slack tide and just take a beat. We don't have to solve all of the world's problems.

That's the approach I'm taking. Yes, I will vote on Nov. 3rd, but until then I'm going to take a breather, relax, and maybe play some Jimmy Buffett songs.

Me worrying and constantly following the news is not going to speed up the development of a vaccine for COVID-19. It will get here when it gets here. There's no need to be in a hurry for the world to go back to its normal hectic pace.

Dennis the Menace

I do sometimes feel like Dennis the Menace when he said, "I want to go to a restaurant. I'm tired of eating groceries."

I have gone to restaurants some lately, but I only go to restaurants that have outside seating, have servers who all wear masks, and I only go in mid-afternoons between their lunch and dinner crowds. I usually have the place almost to myself. And just like the slack tide, it's a calm, and relaxing time.

What does all of this have to do with Rving?

If you're wondering what this article has to do with RVing, the answer is, not much. It's just my two-cents worth describing how I'm dealing with the crazy world we're living in right now. Next week, I'll get back to writing about RVing. I'll be talking about switching the lead-acid batteries in my motorhome over to lithium. How much more exciting can life get?

Bottom line: I'm going to more or less check out and take this time to finish writing the book I'm working on, and maybe even start writing on another one. The world, with all of its problems, will still be there when I get back. I can't fix the world's problems or make everybody happy.

As Steve Jobs said, "If you want to make everyone happy, sell ice cream."
