Imagine working with no distractions
Running away from home
What happens if you run away from home?
I'm not talking about when you thought about running away from home to get married or when you were a kid upset with the world and threatened to run away from home.
I'm talking about running away from home for a month or more right now to work on an important project.
If you run away from home, unexpected things might happen that surprise you.
Getting away from your regular routine and environment makes you much more creative and productive.
Kristin Wilson spent three months in Bulgaria writing her first book, Digital Nomads for Dummies. Now, she's spending some time in Costa Rica to finish writing her second book, Moving Abroad for Dummies, which she plans to release on May 28th.
I wrote my first book 16 years ago while I spent three months in Costa Rica, and I also wrote most of my recent books here. That's one of the many reasons I decided last year to move to Costa Rica and live here full-time. I'm so much more productive here without distractions.
Consider running away from home
Whether writing a book or working on another project, consider "running away from home" for a few weeks or months. Your increased productivity will surprise you.
You're super creative when you're in a different setting
You don't have to go to a foreign country and don't go to a beach or an expensive mountain resort. It's better to be somewhere that doesn't have a lot of distractions. You want to go to an inexpensive, out-of-the-way place.
I know doing this is not workable for everyone, but if you stop and seriously consider it, there might be a way to make it happen. I've seen people make a lot of progress on a project by getting away and devoting a long weekend to it.
Eliminating stress will surprise you with how creative you can be
If you have to take a kid or two or a spouse with you, it can still work as long as everyone has a project they're looking forward to working on.
Maybe your kids have a term paper they need to write, or maybe someone wants to do some painting. Everyone needs to have a project they're looking forward to working on. Using this technique to file your taxes probably wouldn't work as well. Nobody looks forward to working on their taxes.
Imagine how happy a teenager would be to have a term paper completed way before the end of the semester.
You might find that by the time you get back home, everyone is looking forward to when they can do this again.
I had a couple visit me last year, and by 5:30 every morning, all three of us were up drinking coffee and writing on our books. We all made much more progress than expected in a short time.
Ask your tax advisor, but your expenses will probably be tax deductible if you work on a project that will make you money.
I couldn't work sitting here, but it makes a great picture
Bottom line: Whether you want to write a book or work on another project, consider "running away from home" for a few weeks or months (or at least for a long weekend). Your increased productivity will surprise you.
