Discover the world you're in

When most RVers think about traveling, they want to see landmarks, the countryside, monuments, and National Parks.

In other words, they want to see and do tourist things and things on their bucket list.

Many RVers don't see (or notice) the local people, their customs, food, or how they live.

They miss the most enjoyable and exciting parts of traveling.

Anthony Bourdain was an American celebrity chef, author, and travel documentarian who starred in TV programs focusing on exploring international culture, cuisine, and the human condition. Here's what he had to say about traveling.

"I urge you to travel--as far and as widely as possible. Sleep on floors if you have to. Find out how other people live and eat, and cook. Learn from them--wherever you go."

This applies to traveling in the US as well as international travel. When people are doing international travel, it seems that more of them notice how things are different from back home.

When you venture very far away from where you've lived for the last several years in the US, you'll find that the food, culture, people, and customs are way different from what you're used to "back home."

Travel to experience life as well as see things

If you don't stop to notice this, you're missing a big part of the adventure you can experience when you travel.

Stop and smell the roses when you're traveling, eat the local food, experience the local culture, and talk to people.

You will never be bored if you realize that the next interesting person to come into your life is just a conversation away.

When you interact with local people in any area, you experience different ways of looking at the world. Here's an example.

I was once up in the mountains talking to an older gentleman, and I asked him, "Have you lived here all your life?" He said, "Not yet."

Here's something else to think about

Charlie "Tremendous" Jones is 95, and he's still traveling, writing, and speaking. His book Life is Tremendos has sold over two million copies in 12 different languages.

He said, "You will be the same person in five years as you are today except for the people you meet and the books you read."

Living in an RV gives you an excellent opportunity to meet interesting people, plus you'll finally have time to read many good books.

Bottom line: Open your mind to what's around you when you travel, and you'll find your RVing lifestyle much more enjoyable. Forget about seeing all the tourist things and marking items off your bucket list: experience life and the world around you.
