Some projects take a lot of concentration.

What Projects are you working on?

I was making small talk with someone the other day, and I asked them, "What projects are you working on?"

They didn't know what I was talking about. They were not working on any projects. I thought everybody had projects they were working on—or at least projects they wanted to start working on.

A lot of my projects are computer projects, so I'm like the woman in the picture at the top of the page for many hours a day.

Some projects are fun, and some are not

Filing your income taxes is an example of a project I don't consider fun.

Getting ready for a trip or working on a hobby are projects I consider fun. I also enjoy writing or doing research on a book I'm writing to be fun most of the time.

RV repair projects

During the six months I'm back in the US, a lot of my projects involve repairing things on the motorhome. It seems like there is always a long list of things I need to fix.

I enjoy fixing some of the things, but some of them can get frustrating.

Jumping through hoops

The projects I dislike the most are the ones I call "Jumping through hoops." Here are some recent examples:

  • Google no longer allows AWeber or any other email server to send messages using a gmail.com email address. Last week, I had to change everything and get set up to send my weekly emails out using [email protected]

  • I needed to have a replacement debit card sent to me here in Costa Rica. It should have been simple, but after a long time on the phone with my bank today, they are sending it for the third time. The first time, they didn't specify where on the street to send it. The second time, they got the city and street correct but didn't specify which country to send it to.

This is an example of why having two or three bank accounts when traveling internationally is a good idea.

  • Amazon wanted me to send them proof that my 1-million-dollar liability insurance policy (payable to them) was still in effect for this year. They need this so I can continue selling my one $17.95 item on Amazon.

I have more projects I would like to work on than time to complete them, so I was surprised when someone told me recently they didn't have any projects. I thought everybody had projects.

Bottom line: I don't have a bucket list of things I want to do, but I always have a long list of projects I'm working on or plan to start working on soon.
