Why RVers need a hobby
There are a lot of reasons why you might think you don't have the time or space for a hobby when you're RVing.
Some hobbies do take a lot of space. Playing a grand piano or doing chainsaw art might not be a good choice for a hobby if you're an RVer, but for most hobbies, I think you can find a way to make at least a modified version of your chosen hobby work.
There are a lot of hobbies that fit well with the RVing lifestyle. Here are some examples:
- Genealogy
- Painting
- Ham radio
- Writing
- Making jewelry
- Playing music
A lot of people have hobbies that are different from what you might imagine. For example,
Warren Buffett enjoys playing his ukulele
By the way, as you see in the picture (and as you might expect), Warren Buffett is not playing a $29 ukulele. Add a couple more zeros to the $29 price and you might be in the range for the price of his ukulele.
You might think you don't have time for a hobby when you're living and traveling in an RV. If Warren Buffett can find time to enjoy his hobby with all he has to do, I think we should be able to find a way to squeeze in a little time for our hobby.
How does Warren Buffett find time for his hobby? It's simple. He says . . .
If it's not a "hell yes," it's a no
One way Warren Buffett frees up a lot of time is that he says "No" to most requests that are made for his time. People always have projects and opportunities that they want him to get involved with. He is always bombarded with request for his time. Here's how he handles it. If it's not a "Hell yes," it's a NO.
If you turn down everything that's vying for your time that you don't feel like "Hell, yes, I want to do that," I think you will free up a lot of time.

You might think that since engineering mainly uses the left side of the brain and music uses the right side, that a person wouldn't like to do both, but that's not the case.
Consider this
If you want to get into the Georgia Tech engineering school, your chance of getting accepted goes way up if you can play a musical instrument. They have found that students who are only interested in engineering tend to drop out of school at a much higher rate than students who have other interests, such as playing music. Georgia Tech has set aside several rooms for students to use for playing music.
I sometimes think I have too many hobbies. I like to play old-time fiddle, I like ham radio, and of course, I like to write. I used to play bluegrass banjo some, but I don't do much of that anymore (although I still carry my banjo along with me in the motorhome).
Bottom line: The problem with having too many hobbies is that none of them get enough attention. Maybe I should practice more of Warren Buffett's philosophy and start saying "No" to anything that's not a "Hell, yes." Maybe I should also adopt his idea of only having one hobby.
