Would your friends like the RV lifestyle?

The short answer is, "Probably not."

At least, most of them wouldn't like the lifestyle.

It takes a special kind of self-reliant, independent, and adventurous person to be happy living in an RVing.

Sure, a lot of people dream of the freedom, and adventure that comes to mind when they think of living the RVing lifestyle, but that's all it is for them, just a dream. They don't have that burning desire to make RVing happen no matter what like you do.

If your friends are like mine, a lot of them say, "Oh, I would love to do what you're doing."

Then they follow that comment with a "but." The "but" statements go something like this:

  • but I have too much stuff.

  • but I couldn't be away from my grandkids.

  • but I could never live in a space that small.

  • but we could never afford it.

  • but I would be too scared by myself.

  • but I think I would be too lonely.

  • but I'd be afraid I wouldn't like it.

  • And the list of excuses (I mean reasons) go on and on.

I don't try to convince people to live the RVing lifestyle because I don't think most people would like it, even though they kind of think they would.

There are some people who will be living the RVing lifestyle in due time, but they can't do it right now. They have to wait another year or two before they can retire, or before they can start drawing their Social Security, or they have to sell a business, or sell their house, or wait until the kids finish college, or they're taking care of an aging parent.

Most of these reasons will disappear in time, and these people will hit the road and enjoy the RVing lifestyle. You don't have to convince them. They've made up their minds, and they have a plan.

I don't want to try to convince anyone to abandon their present lifestyle and live in an RVing.

When you read some of my books, it may sound like that's what I'm trying to do, but I assume that most of the people who are reading my books already want to live the RV lifestyle, and they just want to know how to make it happen.

Bottom line: Even though a lot of people dream of enjoying the freedom and adventure of the RVing lifestyle, most people will never take the leap and make it happen, and they probably wouldn't be happy if they did. The lifestyle is not for everybody--just you and me.

One last point

What's wrong with the picture at the top of the page?

If you're observant, you probably noticed that the picture at the top of this page is not a picture of an RV that's in the US. The three clues are:

1. The license plate.

2. The road sign.

3. And the fact that the RV is going around a curve on the left side of the road when there's a double yellow line.

Instead of using photos that I shoot myself, I sometimes use photos from one of the websites that offer free images. This is one of those images. The photo captures the concept I wanted to convey (that is, going down the road in an RV free and happy).
